Amy Bernstein began her real estate career in 1982. She soon opened her own real estate company, Bernstein Realty, Inc., in January of 1985, and has been very active in the Houston real estate market ever since. Amy takes great pride in the company that she created, and brings her many years of experience to the clients that she assists. She always stays abreast of the current trends within the local real estate market, and shares that knowledge with her clients. Amy is extremely genuine, fair, honest and always professional. When it comes to negotiating a contract, her negotiation skills are unmatched. When working with clients, there is no one like Amy Bernstein. She is first your agent, then quickly your friend. It is those friendships that remain constant and from which Amy enjoys a great deal of repeat and referred clients.

Amy has served on numerous committees within the Houston Association of Realtors and is a former instructor at the Spencer School of Real Estate. In addition, Amy has served as a director of the Houston Association of Realtors and the Texas Association of Realtors. Amy is also a member of the Houston Relocation Professionals and the Employee Relocation Council, which are two professional organizations that are committed to the issues surrounding workforce mobility. Membership in these organizations is crucial to Amy and to Bernstein Realty, as a significant amount of their business stems from corporate relocation.

In 2002, Amy was the co-creator of the Nancy Owens Memorial Foundation, which is dedicated to yearly fundraising activities that benefit breast cancer research, the largest activity being an annual luncheon attended by many Realtors®, members and friends of the Houston real estate community. The theme of these annual luncheons is “Realtors® Making a Difference.” Amy has served as Chairperson for the Annual Nancy Owens Memorial Foundation Luncheons over the past 6 years, and will again be the Chairperson for the 2008 Luncheon. This Foundation is very close to Amy’s heart, as it was created in the name and honor of Amy’s dear friend Nancy Owens, who was one of Houston’s most loved and respected members of the real estate community who lost her battle with breast cancer in September 2001. Since its inception, the Nancy Owens Memorial Foundation has given a grand total of $620,000 to The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Houston Affiliate and Breast Center at Baylor College of Medici

Amy, along with members of Bernstein Realty and many friends and family, repeatedly participates in the Race for the Cure, which raises money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation, benefiting breast cancer and its research.

In October of 2002, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at its Annual Celebrity Waiters Dinner honored Amy. The honorees were recognized for their contributions to Houston through their efforts in real estate and development. This year’s focus was on those who had made a difference through their contributions to the development of the city.

Amy was the 2002 recipient of the John E. Wolf Citizenship Cup Award, which is awarded by the Houston Association of Realtors. This prestigious award is given to a member who has made outstanding contributions to the community.

In September of 2003, The Houston BMW Group honored Amy at the BMW Ultimate Drive Appreciation Breakfast, benefiting The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Each year the Group honors “Local Heroes” in the fight against breast cancer. At this year’s event, Amy was chosen as an honoree for her co-creation and involvement in the Nancy Owens Memorial Foundation, which is dedicated to a yearly fundraising event to benefit breast cancer research.

In October 2003, Amy was honored by the National Association of Women Business Owners as one of the ten 2003 finalists for “Woman Business Owner of the Year.” This is a recognition given to women business owners by other woman business owners.

In 2004 Amy become a member of the Board of Directors for Avondale House, a local non-profit agency that provides a school, a day habilitation program and residential services for children and young adults with autism and other pervasive developmental disorders.

In November 2004, the Houston Chronicle at its second annual “SOLD on My Realtor” event recognizing 10 area real estate agents honored Amy Bernstein. The honor was designed to recognize Realtors who have exceeded the norm in providing exceptional customer service. The Chronicle received over 300 nominations, from which 10 winners were chosen.

In 2005, Amy became a member of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Houston Affiliate Advisory Board. This is a high honor for Amy due to her personal and professional involvement in the Nancy Owens Memorial Foundation.

In 2006, Bernstein Realty was granted membership in to the Women’s Business Enterprise Alliance (WBEA). The WBEA is an affiliate of the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), and serves as the third-party certifying organization for women-owned business enterprises (WBEs). Businesses that are at least 51% owned by a woman and meet specific criteria as outlined by WBENC standards and procedures are eligible for this certification-a designation that is not only recognized but also required by most major corporations and governmental agencies as a purchasing criteria.

In December of 2006, the Houston Association of Realtors presented Amy Bernstein, along with the entire Nancy Owens Memorial Foundation Committee, with the John E. Wolf Citizenship Cup Award. This award was given to Amy and her committee for their dedication and hard work with the Nancy Owens Memorial Foundation, and creating a theme of “Realtors Making A Difference” in the fight against breast cancer.

Houston Woman Magazine honored Amy Bernstein in March 2007, when she appeared on the cover of that month’s issue, which focused on women and real estate. The article highlighted Bernstein’s career in real estate and the team at Bernstein Realty.

In 2007, the Houston Business Journal honored Bernstein Realty on several occasions. In June 2007, the company was named one of Houston’s Top 25 Largest Houston-Area Residential Real Estate Brokerage Firms. The list, published by the Houston Business Journal, was based on 2006 Gross Dollar Volume of Closed Sales. In August, Bernstein Realty was once again recognized as one of Houston’s Top 50 Fastest-Growing Woman-Owned Businesses. The Houston Business Journal again honored Bernstein Realty as one of Houston’s “Fast 100” Growing Companies in September.

In September 2007, Amy was named as one of eight finalists for the National Association of Woman Business Owners’ (NAWBO) Woman Business Owner of the Year. This is the second time that she has been awarded this prestigious honor.

The Houston Business Journal recognized Amy as one of Houston's 2008 Top 25 Residential Real Estate Professionals in March 2009.

On several occasions, Amy has been recognized by the Houston Association of Realtors and the MLS Advisory Group as one of the Association’s Top Producers with the highest number of total sales and dollar volume sales based on buyer side transactions and listing side transactions. She has also been named as one of "Houston's Top Realtors" by HTexas Magazine on numerous occasions. Amy has appeared twice on KPRC Channel 2's "Beyond the Headlines" to discuss the Houston real estate market.
